Challenge
Traditional teaching methods often fail to help students visualize abstract concepts like planetary revolution, axial tilt, and the scale of the solar system.
This leads to a limited understanding and a missed opportunity to spark a passion for astronomy.
Goal
To design and prototype a VR experience that aligns with the UK's Key Stage 2 science curriculum. The platform needed to be engaging through video chapters and interactive quizzes, accessible, and effective in improving knowledge retention for young learners.
The prototype achieved a “Good” System Usability Score (SUS) of 76.5 from user testing. Participants reported high levels of engagement, found the content visually appealing, and were able to retain information effectively.
Result
The Hi Mum app successfully redefined digital pregnancy support by addressing both sides of the experience — the mother’s wellbeing and the partner’s understanding. User feedback showed high emotional engagement and improved confidence among both audiences, with partners reporting a stronger sense of connection and purpose.
The project successfully validated VR as a powerful tool for immersive education, with a clear roadmap for future features like collaborative learning and enhanced 3D environments.
